What are the Labelling Requirements Under FSSAI Regulations?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the regulatory body responsible for ensuring the safety and hygiene of food products in India. One of the key requirements for food products is labelling, which serves to inform consumers about the contents of the product, its nutritional information, and other relevant details. In this blog, we will take a closer look at the labelling requirements under FSSAI regulations.

Fssai Labelling Requirement

  1. Name of the product: The name of the product must be clear and descriptive, and should not mislead the consumer.

  2. List of ingredients: The ingredients used in the product must be listed in descending order of their weight or volume.

  3. Nutritional information: The nutritional information must be provided for all pre-packaged food products, including the amount of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates, sugar, and sodium. This information must be displayed in a standard format and should be easy to read.

  4. Net quantity: The net quantity of the product must be clearly displayed on the label in both metric and English units.

  5. Date of manufacture and expiry: The date of manufacture and expiry of the product must be clearly mentioned on the label.

  6. FSSAI logo and license number: All pre-packaged food products must display the FSSAI logo and license number. The license number should be in a prominent location on the label.

  7. Country of origin: The country of origin of the product must be mentioned on the label.

  8. Instructions for use: Instructions for use, including storage instructions, cooking instructions, and any other relevant information, must be clearly mentioned on the label.

  9. Allergen information: Any allergens present in the product, such as nuts, dairy, or gluten, must be clearly mentioned on the label.

  10. Other information: Any other relevant information, such as the name and address of the manufacturer, packer, or importer, should be provided on the label.

The labelling requirements under FSSAI regulations are designed to ensure that consumers are well-informed about the food products they purchase. It is the responsibility of food businesses to comply with these requirements to ensure that their products are safe and of high quality.
