Is it mandatory to obtain a digital signature for GST registration and filing?

According to the GST Act, obtaining a digital signature is mandatory for GST registration. You can obtain a digital signature from a licensed Certifying Authority (CA) in India.

Digital Signature for GST filing: GST returns are required to be filed online on the GST portal. To file the returns, you need to sign and authenticate them using a digital signature. A digital signature ensures that the returns are authentic and have not been tampered with.


According to the GST Act, obtaining a digital signature is not mandatory for filing GST returns. You can file your returns using the Electronic Verification Code (EVC) generated on the GST portal. The EVC is a code that is sent to your registered mobile number and email address, and it can be used to verify and authenticate the returns.


However, if you want to file your returns using a digital signature, you can obtain a digital signature from a licensed Certifying Authority (CA) in India.
